28/9/2009 - Overnight resurfacing and repairs for A595

Essential works will be carried out on a stretch of the A595 in west Cumbria next month.

To ensure the scheme, being carried out between Gosforth and Calderbridge by Cumbria Highways, causes minimum disruption it has been timed to take place overnight on October 22 and 23.

The work, which will see resurfacing and repairs undertaken, involves closing the road between Newmill Farm and Boonwood Junction between midnight and 6am on both dates. These timings have been chosen to cause the least possible inconvenience to commuters

Councillor Tony Markley, Cumbria County Council’s cabinet member for highways, said: "This remedial work that is being carried out on this stretch of road is essential but unfortunately the only way to tackle it is under a full closure.

"We apologise for any inconvenience it may cause, but it will be done in just two nights and has been timed to cause as little disruption as possible."

Motorists are advised to avoid the area during the closures as there is no suitable diversion route.
