3/2/2010 - Blast from the past for memories of The Lanes

Carlisle residents can learn more about the city’s past later this month with a special evening and talk on the history of The Lanes.

The evening is being held at Harraby Community Centre on Friday 19 February from 7pm to 8pm with doors opening at 6:30pm. Tickets are priced £2 and are available by calling in at the community centre or calling on 01228 537831.

The event has been organised as part of the Harraby Together We Can project which is lead by Cumbria County Council in partnership with Carlisle City Council, NHS Cumbria, Cumbria Constabulary and Riverside Housing Association.

Harraby has had a new lease of life under the scheme with neighbourhood improvement projects, community get togethers and new activities for local young people.

Most of all the scheme is putting residents at the heart of deciding what needs to be improved in their neighbourhood through Neighbourhood Forums and opportunities to talk face to face with representatives from all the organisations involved.

Already as part of Harraby Together We Can, local young people have benefitted from a new BMX track, graffiti has been cleared up from the area and a community gala has brought residents together.

For more information on Harraby Together We Can, or how you can have your say in how Cumbria County Council works, contact Anne Hull at the council’s community unit Carlisle area support team on 01228 226315 or anne.hull@cumbriacc.gov.uk.
