6/1/2010 - Copeland Borough Council Winter Weather

Copeland Council is extending its weekly household waste collections into next week as the winter weather continues to disrupt everyday life.

The Council had planned to reinstate normal fortnightly garden waste collections to some properties from Monday 11 January, after the Christmas break but will now continue to collect household waste (black bins) during this week.

Refuse and kerbside recycling collections have been disrupted by the wintry weather, which has left many roads icy and hazardous, or even closed.

Janice Carrol, Waste Services Manager said, “We have decided to continue weekly refuse collections for a further week to ensure that we have caught up with remaining collections missed due to the wintry weather conditions. We will then revert to the planned alternate week waste collections. So if your calendar said that next week would be a brown bin collection, this will now be black.”

Unfortunately due to the icy condition of roads other than those treated by the County Council’s gritting service waste and recycling collections and street cleansing services had to be suspended today. Anyone who was due to have a collection this week and has not will now receive this next week.

Similarly recycling collections will now take place on the next expected collection date

Assuming the weather conditions do not deteriorate, waste collection crews will be out again tomorrow endeavouring to carry out Thursday’s normal collections.

The Council’s website contains all the latest information on the impact of the wintry weather, along with links to lots of useful advice and guidance on the weather, including links to the County Council’s roads information, advice from the police for motorists, and much more.
