People from Milnthorpe and surrounding areas are being given the chance to learn more about the service offered by their Local Links branch at a special coffee morning being held next week.
The coffee morning is taking place at the Local Links at 19 The Square, Milnthorpe on Monday 1st February from 10am to 12pm. Refreshments will be available as well as a free DVD or Talking book loan to everyone who comes along.
It is being held on the day that new opening hours agreed by South Lakeland Local Committee in December are being introduced.
The new opening hours mean Milnthorpe library's opening times will double from 13 hours to 26 hours per week. The new hours are as follows:
Monday 10am - 1pm, 2pm - 5pm, 5.30pm - 7pm Tuesday 10am - 1pm Wednesday 10am - 1pm, 2pm - 6pm Thursday Closed Friday 10am - 1pm, 2pm - 5pm Saturday 10am - 12.30pm Sunday Closed
The new Local Links customer contact centre is a one-stop-shop where residents can get information about council services from advisers, who will also give information on behalf of the district council, Job Centre Plus, Citizens’ Advice and Age Concern.
Library staff will be trained to deal with specialised enquiries ranging from applications for school meals grants to how to report problems with street lighting.
The Local Links centre follows the example of those already set up in Ambleside and Grange-over-Sands.
