8/3/2010 - Adult Learners' Week put in the picture

Have you got an eye for a picture ? Are you a budding David Bailey ? Have you completed an Adult Education photography course and learnt how to take digital photographs? Do you simply enjoy taking a few snaps ?

Either way we'd like to hear from you.

As part of Adult Learners' Week 2010 (15-21 May) we are running a county wide photography competition.

It's open to all adults who live, work or learn in Cumbria.

There are two themes: 'The Great Outdoors' and 'The Magic of Learning.'

There will be a winner for each theme who will each receive a digital photo frame. From the theme winners, an overall winner will be picked to be crowned Adult Learners' Week Cumbria Photographer for 2010.

The overal winner will receive a compact digital camera.

The closing date for the competition is Monday 19th April.

The winners will be invited to the Adult Learners' Week conference to be presented with their prizes.

Winning photographs will be displayed in libraries and various other county council settings throughout Cumbria.

Gill Mitchell, Area Operations Manager, Cumbria Adult Education, Children's Services, Cumbria County Council, said:

"This is the first time we've held the competition and we'd like to hear from as many adults as possible. The two themes give entrants the chance to capture the beauty of the Lake District and the wide variety of learning which take place across the county.

It should be great fun and hopefully may lead some people to take up an Adult Education course for the first time."

Adult Learners’ Week is the UK’s largest and longest running learning campaign. Held each May, it encourages thousands of adults, whatever their age and background, to give learning a go.
