13/5/2011 - Cumbria gears up for Adult Learners` Week

Cumbria's libraries will be hosting a series of events to help celebrate the 20th anniversary of Adult Learners' Week, which starts tomorrow (May 14-20).

From brushing up on computer skills to learning to teach English as a foreign language, Adult Learners' Week helps recognise and celebrate the vital role libraries play in ongoing education and training for adults. Hopefully it also inspires people to try a new challenge and learn new skills.

Activities in Cumbria's libraries are as follows:

Allerdale

Sat 14 May: Multicultural Weekend, Multicultural display including foreign fiction. Workington Library.

Monday 16 May: UK Online. Maryport Library.

Tues 17 May: Internet tasters at Workington library in the morning. Please contact the library to book a session. 

Wed 18 May: 2pm-4pm Credit Union, Ways into Successful Enterprise and MIND at Workington Library Thurs 19 May: Internet tasters at Cockermouth Library in the morning (please contact the library to book a session). 10am-1pm Ways into Successful Enterprise drop-in session at Wigton Library.

Fri 20 May: BBC First Click at WGL and SIL. Please contact Wigton Library and Silloth Library for more details and to book a place.

Barrow

Mon 16 May: Various times throughout the day: Beginners computing, Barrow Library

11am: Storytime, Dalton Library.

Various times: Beginners computing. 2.15pm: Reminiscence Royalty, both Walney Library.

Tues 17 May: various times: Beginners computing. 11am –12pm: Protect your computer against viruses. Barrow Library 10am –1pm: Ancestry taster session. 2.15pm –3.15pm: Jewellery Making. Both Dalton Library.

2pm –4pm: Download your digital images and make an album. Roose Library Various times: Beginners computing. Walney Library.

Weds 18 May, various times: Beginners computing. 7pm: Bill Myers talk and slide show, South cumbria’s co-operative societies. Barrow Library.

Copeland

Eden

16 May 10-12am & 2- 4pm: Quiltworks by Maureen Lamb (2 workshops free to attend –limited to 6 places each session), Penrith Library

17 May 2-4pm: Carlisle/Eden Mind Raising awareness and offering well being reviews, Penrith Library

18 May 2-3.30pm: UKonline, an introductory session to using a computer to surf the internet. Book your free place, places limited to 6 people , Penrith Library.

South Lakeland

17 May 10-12 am: IT Taster sessions, Milnthorpe library

18 May 10.30am & 11.30am: Beginner’s IT sessions, Sedbergh Library
