Managing Radioactive Waste Safely

The County Council is fully committed to the MRWS process and has made an expression of interest to Government for its areas in Copeland and Allerdale.

Copeland and Allerdale Borough Councils have also made expressions of interest for their areas.

The MRWS White Paper defines county and district councils as the ‘decision making bodies’ for participation in further stages of MRWS.  Therefore the County Council is now working with Copeland and Allerdale Borough Council to agree how any decision should be taken on whether to participate in further stages of MRWS.
