Minerals and Waste Local Plan

The Cumbria Minerals and Waste Local Plan (MWLP) was adopted by the County Council in June 2000 after having been placed on deposit in September 1996 and being considered at a Public Inquiry in Autumn 1997.

A new system of development plans was introduced by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 and the County Council is now preparing a Minerals and Waste Development Framework (MWDF). The current Local Plan will be progressively replaced by the MWDF documents from June 2008 onwards.

In the transition period most of the MWLP policies are "saved". The list can be viewed or downloaded below.

Together with the Cumbria and Lake District National Park Joint Structure Plan (external link) and relevant national planning policy (external link), these policies will guide and control developments for the supply of minerals and for the management and disposal of wastes.
