Regulation 27 Consultations about the Site Allocations Policies and Proposals Map
Please note that the below consultation has now closed and that all comments recieved are currently being considered.
The Minerals and Waste Development Framework’s Site Allocations Policies and Proposals Map will identify the sites and areas of land that will be needed in Cumbria (outside the two National Parks) for working and safeguarding minerals and for managing waste over the period to 2020.
The Site Allocations Policies and associated maps are published for consultation, together with the Habitats Regulations Assessment. The Policies and maps identify the sites and areas of land that the County Council currently intends to submit to the Secretary of State for consideration.
The maps are intended to be incorporated into the Proposals Map. That Map will also show areas that have already been designated for their international, national and local environmental interests and areas shown on the Environment Agency Flood Maps as being at risk from flooding.
The links below are to a summary version of the Site Allocations Policies, to the full document which includes maps, assessments of sites and maps of Mineral Safeguarding Areas and to the Habitats Regulations Assessment. Details of the environmental designations and flood risk areas that will be shown on the Proposals Map can be provided on request.

The Next Stages
Having taken account of the comments that are received, the County Council will decide on the final version of the Site Allocations Policies and Proposals Map that will be submitted to the Secretary of State. That is programmed for April 2010.
The Planning Inspectorate will then commence its examination of the documents on behalf of the Secretary of State. That process is likely to include a Hearing in Public in the summer of 2010 at which people who have made comments will be able to make them directly to the Inspector.
The Inspector's report on the examination of the documents and its recommendations will be binding on the County Council. The Council's formal adoption of the documents, amended as necessary, is programmed for December 2010.
