Drafts for Submission to the Secretary of State

Cumbria Minerals and Waste Development Framework

The County Council produced its final draft versions of the Minerals and Waste Development Framework Core Strategy and Generic Development Control Policies in March 2008. Comments made at the earlier stages had been taken into account.   A Sustainability AppraisalStrategic Flood Risk AssessmentHabitats Regulations Assessment, and Pre-submission Consultations Statement, a statement about the matters covered by the Development Plan Documents and their availability (the DPD matters), were also published.

The Core Strategy sets out the overall strategy and vision of the Framework.  There are policies about the amounts of waste that will need to be managed, the number of new facilities that will be needed, the amounts of minerals that will need to be dug and for mitigating impacts on the environment and on climate change. It does not identify sites but indicates broad locations for some developments. We will be consulting about suggested sites later this year

The Generic Development Control Policies are the policies that the County Council will use for considering planning applications for minerals and waste management developments.

The consultation closed on 30th May 2008.  All representations are now being listed and will be sent to the Independent Inspector.

An independent Planning Inspector will examine the submitted documents and will consider all of the comments that have been submitted at this stage. The examination will include a hearing in public which is programmed to take place in November 2008. The Planning Inspector will prepare a report, setting out changes that need to be made, which will be binding on the County Council.

You can still view all of the documents on this website, and representations are currently being recorded on the external web-links below.  All the representations made will be available to view at County Offices, Kendal, The Courts Carlisle, at District Council planning offices and at public libraries as soon as possible.
