Green Action at Work

gaaw

'Green Action at Work' is a County Council programme aimed at working with employees to improve our environmental performance and reduce the amount of carbon emissions we produce.  The programme is focussed on addressing environmental problems faced by the Council, through the promotion of green initiatives, the support of corporate management and the encouragement and empowerment of employees.

Green Action at Work currently has several initiatives running, to address:

  • Reducing waste and encouraging recycling
  • Improving energy and water efficiency
  • Limiting car use and encouraging videoconferencing and sustainable transport use
  • Promoting and encouraging sustainable procurement
  • Encouraging the use of IT to improve environmental efficiency of the Council

Environmental Champions...

The programme relies on the environmental responsibility of Council employees to roll out its initiatives and currently has 72 environmental champions (July 2009) throughout the County, who work with the Sustainability team to enforce the green message that the programme is trying to promote.

For more information about the Green Action at Work programme please contact Kathryn Tye - Environmental Performance Officer, via email kathryn.tye@cumbriacc.gov.uk or telephone 01228 221025.  Alternatively, Cumbria County Council employees can visit the Green Action at Work pages on our intranet.
