After a birth has been registered, a short birth certificate showing the name, sex, date and district of birth is issued free of charge, also, a pink form showing the baby’s NHS number for you to deliver to your GP.
The short certificate meets most ordinary needs but a full (Long) birth certificate, which is a complete copy of the register entry, is also available foe a small fee and is required if a person will need to apply for a passport in the future.
Additional short certificates and the full certificate may be bought at the time of registration or at any time afterwards.
