PLEASE BE AWARE we are experiencing a high volume of calls at the present time and we are also undergoing major changes to our service.   Although we are doing our very best to answer calls, it is likely that you will get through to the answer machine message.

To enable us to speak with you as quickly as possible our top tips would be

  • Leave a message rather than calling over and over otherwise we don't know you've been in touch and will just take longer for you to receive our help.
  • If you leave a message please only leave one and then give sufficient time for us to get back in touch (we would suggest 24 hours).  If you leave multiple messages we have more to listen to which results in lost time we could be spending with you providing assistance.

We would like to express our sincere apologies in this regard but we are working towards rectifying the situation as quickly as possible.

Thank you,Cumbria Registration Service

Cumbria is a county of great natural beauty and offers a wide range of very attractive wedding venues. There are Registration Offices in most large towns and over 100 Approved Premises to choose from.  We are able to conduct ceremonies between 9.00am and 5.00pm at all our venues, subject to availability

Since March 2014 Cumbria Registration Service has been delighted to be able to offer marriage ceremonies to same sex couples.  In the first couple of months since the legislation change, several same sex marriages took place and we have received very positive feedback from our newly married couples following their ceremonies.

Your wedding is a special day and we will help make sure your day is a very happy and enjoyable occasion.

Gone are the days when a civil marriage meant a simple ceremony held in front of an office desk. The options available enable you to have a civil ceremony ranging from a simple affair with just two witnesses to having a large wedding party at Approved Premises or Register Office of your choice.

This site provides information to help you plan your wedding day and answers many of the questions commonly asked about the legal aspects of a civil ceremony.

Celebrate in Cumbria and the Lakes is our full colour brochure providing details and information about the formalities of getting married and weddings in Cumbria.  If you would like a copy of the brochure sent to you by post, you can use the online request form.

If you have any questions or would like further advice please contact your local Registration Office or GRO Publications which is a useful introduction to the basics of giving notice and of places where marriage can take place.

We hope you find the site useful. If you have any suggestions for improvement please let us know. We look forward to helping you make your wedding a special day in Cumbria.
