Farm walks

Have you ever wished you knew about where to find information about short walks around a local farm, perhaps even hosted by a farmer?  Look no further!  You could arrange a special event for a group by getting in touch, or you could turn up for a self-led walk and follow the way-markers.

Below is some information about recommended farm walks with shelter, some also have tea rooms / toilets, or other facilities.  Visits are free.  Also below is a contact for further information.

  • Allerdale area  - Bank Mills Nursery, Silloth and Craika Farm near Dearham
  • Eden area  - Greystone House, Penrith
  • Carlisle-area  - High Head Farm near Carlisle, Hilltop Farm near Ivegill, The Croft in Houghton, and Low Luckens and Whiteholme near Heathersgill
  • South Lakeland -  Matson Ground near Bowness-on-Windermere
  • Copeland area  - Tarnfall Hall near Whitehaven

All of these farms are part of the "Agri-environment access sites" run by Natural England.  Contact Kate Doughty to find out more, or follow the link to DEFRA's website below for information on all the farm walk sites in Cumbria.
