Adult Social Care is the directorate which deals with Cumbria County Council's social services responsibilities for adults and their carers.

Our vision is: 'Citizens of Cumbria will enjoy fulfilling lives in diverse ways with dignity and respect'.

Our mission is: 'We will work on behalf of people in Cumbria and in partnership with others to ensure people:

  • are able to make a positive contribution to life in Cumbria;
  • can exercise informed choice and control over their lives; and
  • live free from discrimination and harassment.

Through this people in Cumbria will feel healthier and enjoy a good quality of life with dignity.'

If you would like more information or would like to apply for a service or an assessment, please contact your local Adult Social Care office.  See 'Contact us' for details.  For most services, we have to carry out an assessment of need to help us find out what your needs are and what services could help with these.

You can contact us by telephone, letter, email, fax or personal visit.  If you wish to apply for a service, you can also apply on-line using our 'On-line referrals'.  On-line referrals are available 24 hours a day.

Our directorate includes Cumbria Care, the council's in house social care provider.  Cumbria Care provides a range of services including home care, day care and residential care.  See 'Cumbria Care' if you would like to know more.  The directorate also includes 'Supporting People', a service which can help pay for the additional support provided to people as part of their housing.
