Would you like to brush up on your English or Maths and gain a nationally recognised qualification?
Cumbria Adult Education Service can help you gain a free qualification that is the equivalent level to a GCSE so you can improve your mind, help your children with their homework and perhaps even move on with your own career.
Anyone can sign up to do the courses regardless of any previous qualifications that you may have.
Many courses are held at your local ibrary or community centre and are at various times of the day so you should be able to find a time that suits you.
Many large organisations in Cumbria are encouraging their employees to improve their skills by putting on the Move On courses in-house’. This is a great way to learn, you can often do so in familiar surroundings in the workplace alongside your friends and colleagues.
Temporary Station Manager, Brian Steadman who works for Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service told us more about the Move On with Maths course:
“We’re doing the course as a two day intensive programme and sitting the exam at the end of the second day. It’s a good way of doing it as everything is still very fresh in your mind for the exam although we did all feel a bit frazzled and overloaded by all the things we covered over the two days. It’s been a long time since I sat in a classroom learning about fractions and percentages but I’ve actually really enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend the course to anyone who wants to refresh their Maths skills either as an intensive course or spread over several weeks.”

Family learning is free and fun!
We offer exciting opportunities for families to take part in learning.
A selection of possible courses on offer in your area are:
Our courses look at how you can help your child learn through fun activities. You will also find out how your children are being taught at school. Shorter courses last 12 hours and can be for adults, or adults and children. Longer courses in family literacy and numeracy are 32 hours and give you a chance to look in more detail at learning with your child. We also help you improve your own skills in literacy and/or numeracy and can give you opportunities to move on to further courses and training if you wish.
Free creche facilities or child care arrangements can also be provided.
We work in many different venues across Cumbria. Ask about family learning courses at your child’s school, children’s centre or contact Natasha Storey on 01228 226933.
