Did you know Cumbria County Council and NHS Cumbria are planning to transform short breaks for disabled children and young people and their families? From April 2009 the Government will give us extra funds to start putting our plans into action. The Government expects us to use this money to have our agreed new arrangements in place by April 2011.
‘Short breaks’ are regular, reliable breaks, such as a couple of hours in a sports club, a daytime break, an overnight stay, a holiday weekend. Disabled children, young people and their families across the county, as well as providers and practitioners, have been helping us develop ideas for the future, and their needs and aspirations will be at the heart of our plans.
We have put together a vision statement to demonstrate we understand what we need to do and what it will take to do it; and to let people in Cumbria know what disabled children and their families should be able to expect.
