The community of Aspatria will shortly see the opening of their very own Local Link. Local Link is part of a joint scheme between Cumbria County Council and Allerdale Borough Council which aims to bring many council and other services into one convenient place for people. A similar scheme was launched at Alston and Wigton last year and has proved to be very popular.
This specially-equipped office, based in Aspatria Library, will provide access to the council’s Internet sites so that people can view online resources such as job vacancies, planning applications, as well as a dedicated phone line for enquiries about housing benefit, recycling, assistance with filling in forms and setting up direct debits to pay bills. There will also be a self-service terminal for people to make any payments they need to the council by card.
In order to improve the availability of these services to the general public, Aspatria Local Link will be open an extra eight hours per week increasing from 17 to 25.Other services planned for the Aspatria Local Links facility in the near future include Citizens Advice Bureau drop in centres, Job Centre Plus information, Housing Benefit and planning application surgeries.
