Neighbourhood Policing

Do you know how to contact your Neighbourhood Police Officers? We want you to be able to say ‘yes’. Neighbourhood Police Officers help to tackle local policing issues and work with local residents to set and tackle policing priorities. And now you can get involved too.

Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Andy Davidson, who has responsibility for Neighbourhood Policing in Cumbria, said: “Cumbria Constabulary is focused on building safer and stronger communities, and providing residents with information about the officers working in their neighbourhood. We want to ensure that we target our resources effectively and maximise the time our officers spend on the street. All of this forms part of our policing pledge to the people of Cumbria, and only by engaging with the community can we achieve this.

“By sharing information and ideas, communities can work with their Neighbourhood Police Officers and partner agencies to directly improve the quality of life in their community. The recent Neighbourhood Policing Week highlighted the efforts of officers to engage with their communities, and the willingness of people to work with their local police.”

By working with local residents, neighbourhood police officers, police community support officers and special constables can plan and carry out activities and operations to tackle local issues. Activities include mobile police vans set up in towns to enable police to get to know their communities, a host of activities to distract youngsters from anti-social behaviour and various policing operations to tackle specific neighbourhood issues.

The week was supported by Cumbria Police Authority whose chairman, Reg Watson, said: “Cumbria Police Authority is fully supportive of Neighbourhood Policing. We know from what people tell us that people in Cumbria have a high level of confidence in the Police and Neighbourhood Policing offers an opportunity to highlight and build on all the excellent work undertaken throughout Cumbria.”
