So what’s it like round your way?  In a nutshell that’s what councils in Cumbria are trying to find out at the moment.

As part of the Place Survey over 30,000 households in the county are being invited to share their views on where they live and their local public services. Your household might be one of them.

Council’s across the whole of England are running the survey. The Government will be using the results to see how people’s views and priorities change across the county and to judge council performance.

We know from previous surveys that Cumbrian’s really rate the county; levels of satisfaction with where people live are some of the highest in the country! In Barrow residents are currently making their feelings about the town loud and clear – they love it. The Love Barrow campaign launched by Barrow Borough Council has really captured the public imagination creating a real feel-good factor. But it’s not just Barrow that’s brilliant, we asked some Cumbrians to tell us why they love the county. They’ve got no doubts either!

“The thing I like most about living in Cumbria is the people. The positive ‘can do’ attitude and friendly nature of people is fantastic.” Dr Martin Gardner

“I moved from London and life is easier up here.  It’s more laid back, with clean air and water ... and nice people.” Andy Dobson, greengrocer, Highgate, Kendal

“The beautiful scenery, lots of activities to do outdoors, there are also great food producers in this area. I wouldn’t want to change a thing about the county.” Julie Thomas, baker at The Staff of Life Bakery, Kendal
