Digital camera use

Use of digital cameras in Cumbria Archive Centres: details of charges

Please note that there are charges for the use of all digital cameras for taking images of archives and printed sources in the searchroom. These charges were introduced in June 2007. They help generate the income we need to protect front line services. The charges are as follows (from 1 May 2019):

1 session licence:  £ 5.00
2 session licence:  £ 9.00
5 session licence: £ 22.00
10 session licence:  £ 39.00
1 year licence (corporate/business users): £ 161

A single session is defined as one day (09.30-17.00).  Licences are transferable between the locations of Cumbria Archive Service. Please complete an application/copyright declaration form, available from the Searchroom Enquiry Desk. The supply of digital camera licences is conditional on researchers completing the application/copyright declaration form and refraining from flash photography. The use of personal document scanners is not permitted.

Please note we accept only cash or UK cheques in our Archive Centres. It is possible to purchase a 1 session camera licence through our online shop.

Details of our conditions and charges for publication and commercial use of images of archives can be found appended to our Media Agreement(PDF, 120KB) (Word, 60KB).

Further guidance can be found in our full searchroom rules.
