 Britannica Online contains comprehensive and trustworthy information on a wide variety of topics.  It contains many interactive features and has three versions that cover 5-11 year olds, 12-18 year olds and adults.

Bloomsbury Online Books
Public Libraries Online is a website where library users will have unlimited, free 24 hour access to a wealth of titles on each of the virtual "bookshelves" to which Cumbria Libraries have subscribed. You can read full text ebooks online from publishers such as Bloomsbury, Canongate and Arden.

One Click downloadable Books

Download free audiobooks. Clipper DL represents a huge leap forward in the way library users can access unabridged audiobooks. Linking to a our website, it provides access to over 600 bestselling unabridged audiobooks for every library member.

A simple "one click" download process can transfer audiobook content from the Clipper DL Collection to a portable media player. The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All that is required is a PC with broadband internet access.

Driving theory Test

Driving Theory Test Pro is a highly realistic online simulation of the UK's driving theory test. It contains the entire official test question bank, licensed from the Driving Standards Agency, the people who set the tests. It gives unlimited access to all the official questions from the DSA in the same format as the official test, and includes the online version of Highway code. British library Newspapers

This new digital resource provides access to national, regional and local 19th century British newspapers. Available from any public library in Cumbria and to registered library members at home by entering your library card number when prompted.

The largest single collection of 17th and 18th century English news media available from the British Library and includes more than 1,000 pamphlets, proclamations, newsbooks and newspapers from the period. Access is possible at any Cumbria Library People's Network PC or from any PC using the barcode from your Cumbria Library card.

Cumbria image bank
Cumbria Image Bank is a collection of digital images created using original material from Cumbria County Council Libraries and Archives Service. The website enables readers to view 25,000 images, dating back to the mid-eighteenth century, covering the whole of Cumbria. There are also images that members of the public have sent in - see section 'sending images'.
Family history hunters who visit any Cumbrian library will be able to search name-indexed census information from 1841 to 1911 which would cost £ 70 to access through a private subscription.
