    Ray Greenhow is an ex-police officer who wrote 'Britain's First Black Policeman', The Life of John Kent A Police Officer in Cumberland 1835 to 1846. Find out more about the fascinating life of Britain's first black police officer, who was the son of a freed slave and served communities of Maryport and Longtown.     This tradition goes back 1,000 years and the High Sheriff is the oldest secular officer under the Crown. As only the 3rd ever black person to be in this office in England and Wales, Marcia will be explaining her interesting career and background.
