  • Author Event Karen Babayan

    Kendal Library

    Join us for an afternoon with Karen Babayan, who will be talking about her 2019 book, Swallows and Armenians. Using newly-appraised correspondence and diaries as its basis, this collection of short stories, shows how a Cumbrian/Armenian family inspired the characters for the Walker family in Arthur Ransome's classic children's book, Swallows and Amazons. Karen Babayan was born in Iran to Armenian/British parents, moving to Leeds in November 1978 just prior to the Islamic Revolution of January 1979. She gained a PhD in Contemporary Art Practice from Leeds Beckett University and was awarded C-Art Cumbria Artist of the Year.
