    Join us to hear Antoinette Fawcett talk about how she set about translating from Dutch, the fascinating story of 'Bird Cottage' the first novel by Eva Meijer. Bird Cottage is the fictionalised story of Len Howard who retreated from the world of a concert violinist to a Sussex cottage to study the natural world of birds that lived nearby and become a noted ornithologist.   • Kathryn Warner- Author Talk

    Join us to hear Kathryn Warner as she relates her expertise on the reign of Edward II The Unconventional King. A reign of endless drama, conflict and intrigue with yet more mystery surrounding his legendary death by red-hot poker. Kathryn grew up in Ulverston and holds 2 degrees in Medieval history from the University of Manchester. She is the author of six books about the 14th Century.   • Ulverston Fallen - Remembrance exhibition and coffee morning

    An exhibition remembering the men and women of Ulverston who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Great War of 1914-1918. Exhibition runs from 27 Oct - 10 Nov. Coffee Morning on 7th November, hosted by Janet Elgin, Standard Bearer of Ulverston Royal British Leigon. Come and discuss the research, investigate family links and add personal contributions to the archive.

  • Alan Cleaver - Corpse Roads of Cumbria

    As part of the Great North West Read, join us for an afternoon with Alan Cleaver, who, with his partner, Lesley Park, is the author of Corpse Roads of Cumbria - a book that looks at the ancient tracks that criss-cross the county and once were used to carry the dead from remote villages to the 'mother' church. Not surprisingly, the Corpse Roads became associated with much folklore, legends and ghosts! Alan will separate the facts from the myths in his talk.
