Cumbria Libraries Access For All

Cumbria Libraries are committed to making libraries and information accessible to everyone.

Are you sensory sensitive or autistic?
We are actively working to make our libraries autism friendly. As part of this we recognise staff training, tolerance of noise and understanding from the public can make our libraries more welcoming and accessible. Whitehaven and Millom Libraries now have social stories and visual maps of library layouts to provide the clarity needed to help plan visits and these are on individual library pages.

Accessible IT
All our public access PCs have variable font options; some libraries can provide use of a BigKeys Keyboard and Trackball Mouse.

Do you have difficulty reading print?
Carlisle Library has reading machines. Cumbria Libraries have books in large print and talking books in different formats. We also have free online downloadable audio books and e-books for which font size and background colour can be easily altered. These are accessed using the Borrowbox app

Do you have difficulty hearing?
All our libraries have Induction Loops.

Do you have mobility problems?
Most of our libraries have step free access
Several libraries have accessible meeting rooms and toilet facilities.
