Household Waste Recycling Centre Permit Scheme

COVID-19 - important update on the Household Waste Recycling Centres

The waste permit scheme is currently not in operation due to the Household Waste Recycling Centres being closed.

Following the latest government guidance on COVID-19 and in light of the rapidly moving situation, the Council has taken the difficult decision to close all 14 of the Council's Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) from 5pm on Wednesday 25 March 2020 until further notice.

The Government has been clear under which very limited circumstances individuals are permitted to ,leave their home.  The HWRC sites do not fall within these categories, and keeping the sites open is encouraging residents to continue to leave their homes and visit the sites.

We thank you for your cooperation, support and understanding in these unprecedented times.

Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) are provided for householders to deposit and recycle household rubbish. Trade waste is not accepted at these centres. To ensure the exclusion of trade waste, certain vehicles are only permitted to use these sites subject to a permit scheme.

If you drive:

  • a van
  • a pickup
  • a flatbed or tow a twin axle trailer (up to 3 metres long)
  • or you are a pedestrian accessing the sites

you will need to get a free permit before you visit the recycling centre.
