Moving bikes around on Public Transport in Cumbria

Most trains only have space for two bicycles. These must be stored in the appropriate bike space so look for the side of the train where you should get on with your bike.  Spaces cannot be reserved, so it's first come first served.

Virgin Trains

Services carry up to two bikes.    

A free, advance reservation is required for each single journey  with at least 24 hours' notice.

When making a reservation, remember that it is no longer possible to book bicycles on line, and it's advisable to make the bicycle booking when you buy your ticket. 

Folding bikes can be carried on all services.

Cross Lakes Shuttle

This integrated bus and boat service operates between Bowness Pier, Ferry House (Far Sawrey), Hill Top (Beatrix Potter's Farm) and  Hawkshead.

Please note this service only operates between Easter and the end of the Autumn (October) Half Term holiday.
