Recreational and Promoted Routes

Recreational and promoted routes are local or long-distance trails which have been developed and are officially recognised. In Cumbria we have some fantastic routes, which include:

National Trails

  • The Pennine Way
  • The Pennine Bridleway (south)
  • The Hadrian's Wall Trail 
  • England Coast Path

Recreational and promoted routes

  • The Cumbria Way (70 miles from Ulverston to Carlisle)
  • The Dales Way (80 miles from Bowness-on-Windermere to Ilkley in West Yorkshire) 
  • A Dales High Way (90 miles from Shipley in Yorkshire to Appleby in Westmorland)
  • Pennine Journey (247 miles circular walk starting from Settle in Yorkshire to Hadrian's Wall and back to Settle)
