Registration of Performing Animals

At present, anyone who trains or exhibits any animal for performance in a circus, as part of an exhibition or for a stage performance, must be registered with their Local Authority under the Performing Animals (Regulation) Act 1925.

Registration is a one-off event and a fee is payable.  The fee from 1 April 2018 is £ 25.00.  However, you may be subject to inspection prior to registration becoming effective.

From the 1 October 2018, the Performing Animals (Regulation) Act 1925 will be revoked and replaced by The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018.  Under the new Regulations anyone exhibiting an animal as a business will need a licence from their District Council rather than the County Council.

Any existing registrations made under the Performing Animals (Regulation) Act 1925 will continue in force until 1 April 2019.  After such date, anyone who still has a 1925 Act registration and who wishes to continue to operate a business of exhibiting animals must have a valid licence under the 2018 Regulations.
