Lyth Valley welcomes Cumbia`s first Community Wheels initiative

A new community transport scheme took to the road in the Autumn of 2013, serving people living in the Lyth Valley. The 'Community Wheels' initiative is the first of its kind in Cumbria and will involve a team of volunteer drivers providing local transport for residents wanting to get out and about using a minibus.  Local people who sign up for the scheme can make advance bookings for journeys around the Lyth Valley and into Kendal on Wednesdays each week.

Officers from the South Lakeland team worked with Councillor Jim Bland and local residents to establish the Lakes and Lyth Valley Community Wheels steering group to get the scheme up and running.

For more details on how to sign up to use Community Wheels, and information on how to become a volunteer driver, call Abby Barrett or Joanne Wall on 0845 602 3786 or visit www.cumbria.gov.uk/ruralwheels
