Cumbria County Council helps fund community group Cinema

For the past 11 years, Oxen Park Cinema Club has been entertaining local communities in the High Furness area by setting up it's equipment to show films in village and school halls.  Now, with the benefit of generous donations from a number of organisations and individuals, including a Community Support grant from the High Furness Neighbourhood Forum, the group has opened the doors to its very own cinema, the Carthouse, in Oxen Park, near Newby Bridge.

Seating 35, and with the opportunity to bring a drink across from the Manor House public house opposite, the group are now looking to raise further funds for Phase 2 which will purchase fixed digital equipment and new, rather than second-hand, seating.  The mobile equipment which they currently use can then more easily be again used for outreach film shows.

Following a trial run with the film "Amour" on 12th November 2013, this unique facility, which is licensed to show films on Tuesdays and Saturdays, officially opened it's doors on 16th November 2013 with a showing of "Skyfall".
